To keep clothing spend within your budget, a capsule wardrobe is the way to go. Artificial restrictions make it easier, whether it be limiting the number of items, or the colour palette, or both, to just say no.

This practice also leads to only buying clothes you know you need for the upcoming season. Buying for your future self is difficult, so I tend to avoid the problem if I can.
